Adderall is prescribed to treat attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Adderall can also be used in the treatment of a sleep disorder called narcolepsy.
How to take:
Take Adderall exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole without chewing or breaking it. Always take Adderall no later than 6pm to avoid sleep problems (insomnia).
Never use Adderall if you have used an MAO inhibitor within past 2 weeks (furazolidone (Furoxone), isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or tranylcypromine (Parnate)). Tell your doctor if you are allergic to Adderall or if you have any of these conditions: glaucoma, overactive thyroid, severe high blood pressure, angina (chest pain), heart failure, heart rhythm disorder, or recent heart attack, a personal or family history of tics (muscle twitches) or Tourette's syndrome, severe anxiety, tension, or agitation (Ritalin can worsen these symptoms). Tell your doctor if you have a congenital heart defect.Avoid drinking fruit juices or taking vitamin C when you take Adderall. These can make your body absorb less of the medicine.
The most common side effects of Adderall are headache or dizziness, insomnia, dry mouth, constipation, tremors, anxiety. Other adverse effects include fast or uneven heartbeats, fever, increased blood pressure, changes in behaviour, muscle twitches, hallucinations etc. Seek medical aid if you experience one of these severe side effects.
